Caspar is in-zone for Matua Ngaru School – a co-education primary school that opened in 2019 serving the communities of Huapai and Kumeu. Recent infrastructure improvements have brought Kumeu much closer to the CBD in recent times; the North-Western Motorway has been extended to within 5 km of Kumeu and the North Auckland train line takes you to the city centre in approximately one hour or less.

After a round of golf at the Huapai Golf Course, head over to the Hallertau Brewery or The Riverhead Tavern to enjoy some local craft beers or chilled Chardonnay.

Nearby Huapai means ‘good fruit’ in Te Reo and the fruits that the area is particularly renowned for are grapes.

It is Auckland’s premier wine-growing region and winegrowing is the main industry in Kumeu and the smaller nearby settlements of Huapai and Waimauku. Nikola Nobilo began planting grapes on his Huapai farm in 1943. Soljans Estate Winery is the third oldest in New Zealand. Coopers Creek Winery has been crafting award-winning fine wines for three decades.

Kumeu River Winery produces world-class wine on its 30 hectares of vineyards. The Hunting Lodge Winery and Restaurant has a history dating back to 1868. Here you can choose to play petanque in the Family Zone surrounded by the olive grove and childrens’ play area or find a romantic spot amongst the vines. The popular wine tasting trail leads all along SH16 and weaves in and out of the back blocks of Kumeu-Huapai.
